If the Captain America 3 Screenwriter Had His Way, MODOK Would Be That Film’s Villain

We know that we have our ridiculous fan theories about which comic book characters we’d like to see Marvel mine for future films, but it’s always fun to hear the folks with any deciding power talk about their dream crossovers and cameos. That’s why we were tickled when Captain America: Winter Soldier co-writer Christopher Markus revealed that he’s been gunning to put MODOK into a future Cap film. Because yes.

Markus and co-writer Stephen McFeely recently spoke with SFX about what inspired them to make Winter Soldier a political thriller, how they debated over whether to include Cap’s “learning the future” lists, and what cameos they tried to work in. That’s where Markus revealed his master plan to incorporate the Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing:

I don’t know if there’s anybody that we had in the wings that we couldn’t pull off. There are people that I’m always wanting to bring in. I want to put Modok into something, but you can’t just drop a giant floating head in! It’s not like “Oh, we have to go talk to this guy—there’s something I should tell you about him first…” [laughs]. Suddenly the whole movie needs to take on that structure in order to accommodate him. I never win that fight!

“But you will never rest,” McFeely added. Interestingly, we found this 2012 thread from a message board, where one fan purported that we actually glimpse a blueprint for MODOK’s suit in Captain America. So, clearly he’s been on more than one person’s mind.

Don’t listen to the haters, Markus! Hell, people scoffed when Marvel announced they were making a movie revolving around a talking raccoon, and now Rocky’s one of the summer’s runaway stars. The times, they are a-changin’.
